Preserved

“Preserved” is an intimate oil painting on canvas that was showcased as part of my solo exhibition Dreamy Softness. Stylistically and texturally, this piece is a sister work to my painting The Self-Indulgent Doe, utilizing the same vibrant, multi-colored background. The composition centers on a pair of male hands tightly cradling a glass sphere, inside of which a tiny female body is enclosed. This imagery opens up a tense, double-edged narrative about romantic agony, control, and the melancholy of escape. With a distinct feminist undercurrent, the painting questions the thin line between protection and captivity - exploring whether this woman is being kept safe from the outside world, or selfishly trapped and objectified by the male gaze. It is a visual critique of a love that suffocates, leaving the viewer to wonder: is she saved, or is she imprisoned?
